ABSTRACT CONSERVATION AND REHABILITATION PROJECT FOR PİRLER AND GERHİYAN STREETS İN KÜTAHYA SÖNMEZOCAK, Zuhal M.S., Department of Architecture, Restoration Supervisor: Inst. Necva AKÇURA September,1995, 215 pages The conservation problems of the traditional residences and their surroundings at Pirler and Germiyan Streets in the historic district,“Pirler Mahallesi, Kütahya”were analized, in this study. Proposals were developed for the defined problems within the framevrork of the possibilities and potentials. The first step of the two scaled survey comprises the historic urban site which includes the surveyed street. According to the analysis, the architectural characteristics, structural condition and usage problems of the building groups were evaluated in this step. The buildings on Pirler and iiiGerroiyan Streets, which have different architectural characteristics and conservation problems, were analized in detail in the second step. it was pointed out that especially the traditional residences were not used in their real capacity. The refunctioning proposals were developed för the surveyed street, considering the traditional characteristics of it and the traditional and architectural values of the buildings. Primarily, new functions were proposed for the buildings that have usage problems and high architectural values. Finally, the phases of the implementations were determined according to the defined special project zones.
