Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı Ortaöğretim Meslek Lisesi 9. sınıf öğrencilerinin matematik dersinde fonksiyonlar konusuna ilişkin algılarını belirlemektir. Bunun için: içinde klasik, açık uçlu ve çoktan seçmeli soruların bulunduğu bir başarı testi hazırlanmıştır. Bu başarı testiyle öğrencilerin: fonksiyon tanımı, fonksiyonun tanım kümesi, değer kümesi, görüntü kümesi ayrıca Birebir ve Örten fonksiyon, fonksiyon grafikleri gibi kavramları nasıl algıladıkları incelenmiştir. Çalışma Meslek Lisesi 9. sınıfta öğrenim gören 140 öğrenciyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ayrıca daha ayrıntılı veri elde etmek için 10 öğrenciyle mülakat gerçekleştirilmiştir. Başarı testinden elde edilen verilerin analizi SPSS 15.0 paket programında yapılmış, mülakatlarda elde edilen veriler için ise nitel analiz yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın bulguları Meslek Lisesi 9. sınıf öğrencilerinin fonksiyon kavramını tanımlarken güçlük çektiklerini göstermiştir. Öğrencilerin çoğunluğunun fonksiyonun şematik (Venn şeması) gösterimini daha iyi algıladıkları tespit edilmiştir. Fonksiyona ait ögeleri: tanım kümesi, görüntü kümesi ve değer kümesini algılarken, fonksiyonun sıralı ikili gösteriminde, diğer gösterimlere göre güçlükler yaşadıkları tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca fonksiyonun grafiksel gösterimi konusunda çok yetersiz oldukları belirlenmiştir.

The goal of this study is to determine the comprehension levels of the ninth graders at vocational high schools of the“subject of functions”in mathematics classes. In order to do this, an achievement test that consists of classical, open-ended and multiple choice questions has been prepared. Using this achievement test, it has been investigated that at what level the students understand certain concepts related to functions --such as the definition, domain, codomain, range and the graph of a function and one-to-one functions. This pilot study has been performed on 140 ninth-graders studying at a vocational high school. Also, in order to obtain more detailed data, interviews have been conducted with 10 students. While a qualitative analysis has been done for the data obtained from the interviews, the data of the achievement test has been analyzed using SPSS 15.0 package. The results of this study shows that ninth graders studying at vocational high schools have difficulties when defining the concept of functions. It is determined that the majority of the students comprehend the Venn diagram presentations of functions better. On the other hand, it is identified that they have more difficulties when understanding certain concepts related to functions –such as domain, codomain, range-- and ordered pair presentations of functions (compared to other presentations). It is also determined that they are very unsatisfactory on the subject of graphical presentations of functions.
