This study was conducted to compare the value of Cortical Index(CI), Antegoinal Index (AGI), Mental Index (MI), Panoramic Mandibular Index (PMI),Gonial Angle (GA), Antegonial Angle (AGA),Condylar Angle (CA), and Antegonial Depth (AD) in both panoramic and CBCT images of high risk osteoporotic femal patients in relation to age.Sixty ninepanoramic and CBCT images taken from the women withage range between 44–80 years, were included in this study. On CBCT images, PMI, AGI, MI,and CIwere measured on cross-section images on the both sides. GA, AGA, CA, and AD were measured using panoramic representations of the mandible on both sides. Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) test were used to evaluate the agreement between the first and the second measurements. The relationship between the right and left sides for PMI, AGI, MI, GA, AGA, CA, and AD was examined by using Pearson's Correlation Coefficient test. The relationship between the right and the left sides for CI was examined by using Contingency Coefficient test. Chi-Square test was used to compare CI classification between two independent samples. t -test was used to compare the mean different of other indices between two independent samples. The results show that, there was agreement between the first and the second CBCT and panoramicradiography measurements. There was a significant correlation between the right and the left measurements of CBCT for all indices (P < 0.05), except GA (P >0.05). There was a significant correlation between the right and the left measurements of panoramic radiographs for all indices (p <0.05). We found that there was no significant difference between the measurement of panoramic radiography and CBCT in PMI, MI, CI, AGA, AD, CA, and AGI in boththe right and left sides(P >0.05). Also, there was no significant difference in GA between two groups in the right side (p>0.05). But there was a significant difference in GA between two groups in the left side (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between two age groups in all indices measured on CBCT or on panoramic images on both sides (P >0.05). In conclusion, in the attempt to reduce initial cost and the dose of radiation for the detection of osteoporosis with larger numbers of osteoporotic patients attending dental clinics; panoramic radiograph can be used for evaluation of the bone changes instead of CBCT images.
