Özet
-SÜMMARY- The main purpose of this study is to estimate the overall tourism demand functions towards Turkey by using seven alternative well-behaving hypotheses concerning the underlying functional forms, in order to investigate the comparative reliability of different specifications. The fundamental monthly time-series was derived from touristic income, and entry and exit figures of foreign visitors, to give quantity data as the number of overnights and price data as the average expenditure per overnight by employing a new method of estimation. The contribution of the work to the regression analysis procedure of demand with tourism variables on monthly basis is to eliminate the seasonal component from the quantity series before applying the usual modes of analysis. It was shown that this segregation led to overcome the severe difficulties, which prevented the extensive use of aggregate demand functions with monthly tourism data. 62Results had shown that the external tourism demand towards Turkey during the 1984 - 1986 period did not violate the relationships of two-variable demand function. Highly satisfactory results had been obtained with most of the alternatives, the best one being the reciprocal relationship. 63
