Özet
SUMMARY To recognise a building in terms of architectural identity, to start restoration with correct method, as having necessary information and hardwares against the problems occured in architectural elements included in the wall and the interior thereof on the monumental brick- stone buildings, it is intended to make diagnose, correct decomposi tion reasons, research, healthy method selection, material employment and application comparatively with the forms characteristic to the other buildings within the historical building. The“Şehzade Mehmet Mosque”, representing the Ottoman Period monumental building architec ture and holding an important place in the improvement of the architec tural factor and the currently restoration methods being applied within the body of this mosque are given as an example. SECTION I : Explained are the formation of the monumental building con scious with the values determined on the different factors and samples of the monumental buildings, by explaining the properties that caused to gain the monumental characters, values they own, in comparison with other immovable cultural assets by making the concepts and definitions of the monumental buildings. SECTION 2 : The composition forms of the monumental building elements being utilized in the Ottoman Monumental architecture, have been exam ined in the construction of the“Şehzade Mehmet Mosque”. SECTION 3 : By explaining the walls and the elements of their constitu ents of the Ottoman Period monumental stone/brick buildings, the forma tions of these elements have been investigated within the structure of the.“Şehzade Mehmet Mosque”.SECTION 4 : For determination of the restoration aims and methods to be applied with the architectural elements within the construction of stone/brick buildings and those found within the walls, by examining the damage reasons and types thereof in relation to various effects, the deformations observed on the construction elements of the“Şehzade Mehmet Mosque”have been inspected. SECTION 5 : Before starting the restoration work, to assist the selec tion of the restoration method, make use of interventions directed to protection, achieve the use in a planned manner supported materially with the technical possibilities, to determine the presedence on the protection, historical, typological method, by explaining the researches and material analysis to obtain the necessary information about the lost sections of the building, the works been carried on at the“Şehzade Mehmet Mosque”directed towards this objective have been disclosed. SECTION 6 : Taking the works been carried on during the restoration of the“Şehzade Mehmet Mosque”, the preparations necessary to carry out when starting the application phase of the walls and architectural ele ments on which reasons for damage and the investigations therefore were completed, and the structural and surface interference methods, different techniques of the application and the contemporary material usage, are explained.
