96 SUMMARY After civil war in the united States of Ameri ca, with the help of industrial changes and urbaniza tion/ there happened various developments in social sciences. At the beginning of 1900's there were strong beliefs through the American sociologists toward natural laws, sociological reform and progressive social change. Between first world war and 30* s economici depression, sociology developed rapidly and put itself into a scientific contex. Experimentalism gained importance, multicau- sational explanations were strated to accept ed by the scientists and most important of all was that subjectivity and objectivity seperated from each other. Around 19 35' interdisciplinary aproach was taking up seriously in social sciences. Merton, as a recation to abstract and non-applicated approac- hings, prefered emprical research. With making the term of“function”different, he discriminated, latent and manifest functions. He pointed out the intractability between cultural and97 social construction, and showed it as the main reason of anomy. He analysied the individual/ who m®5 in anomy with his deviant behaviour and conformity/ and especially insisted on the American society and its outcome as behaviorical characteristics.
