Özet
Bu çalışma, Kocaeli ilinin Gebze ilçesinde lise düzeyindeki öğrencilerin okulu terk etme nedenlerini sosyolojik bir perspektiften araştırmıştır. Çalışmada öncelikle kendi özel koşullarında araştırma bölgesinin sosyal yapısının gelişim süreci anlaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. Daha sonra dünyada ve özel olarak ülkemizde eğitime sosyolojik yaklaşımlar ve okul terk çalışmaları değerlendirilmiş ve bu çalışmalar üzerinden okul terkin tanımı yapılarak saha araştırmasında kullanılmak üzere inceleme boyutları elde edilmiştir: aile, toplumsal çevre ve okul... Okulu terk edenlerin, okulu terk edenlerin ailelerinin ve eğitimcilerin katılımıyla oluşturulan 36 kişilik araştırma grubunda, belirlenen boyutlarda, yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme formlarıyla tekil-olay desenine göre nitel bir araştırma yapılmıştır. Ayrıca araştırma bulguları, MEB'den temin edilen okul terk istatistikleriyle de tartışılmıştır. Aile boyutunda, ailenin göç ile gelmesinin, ekonomik durumunun, çocuğunun okul eğitimine gösterdiği ilgi ve desteğinin, çocuğunun cinsiyetine göre okul eğitimine yaklaşımının; toplumsal çevre boyutunda, akraba ve hemşehrilerin, mahalledeki arkadaş çevresinin, bölgedeki sanayi ve iş imkânlarının, Gebze'nin sosyal yapısının; okulla ilgili olarak, öğretmen ve öğrencilerle ilişkilerin, rehberlik servisinden yararlanmanın, devam edilen okul türünün okul terkle ilişkisi olduğu görülmüştür.

This study investigates the dropout reasons of the students at high school level from a sociological perspective, in Gebze district of Kocaeli province. First of all, the development process of the social structure of research area is aimed to be explained within the scope of it's the special conditions. After that the sociological approaches to education and studies on dropout in the world and specifically in our country have been reviewed and depending on those studies, dropout is defined and related research dimensions are attained to be used in the research field: family, social environment and school. A single case study design qualitative research method is implemented for the certain dimensions with semi-structured interview forms, and the participants of the study consisted of 36 people including students who dropped out, their parents, and educators. In addition, the findings of the study are also discussed with dropout statistics of Ministry of National Education. In terms of family dimension; the migration, economical status, involvement and support to the education of the child, the approach to education in accordance with gender; in terms of social environment dimension; relatives and countryman, peer-group, industry and job opportunities in the city, the social structure of Gebze; in terms of school dimension; the relationship among teachers and students, availability of counselling service, the type of school are found to be in relation with dropout.
