Özet
Taşra konusu son zamanlarda, özellikle edebiyat ve sinema alanında çeşitli yaklaşımlarla ele alınmaktadır. Bu çalışma ise sosyoloji literatüründeki eksikliği tamamlama amacıyla ortaya çıkmıştır. Taşra kavramının/olgusunun, salt mekânsal bağlama hapsedilmesi ve gayri medeni hasletlerle ilişkilendirilmesi bir sorunsal olarak görülmüş ve bu yaklaşım hem teorik hem de pratik (saha, uygulama) düzeyde kritik edilmiştir. Çalışmanın ilk bölümleri, kent, mekân ve ötekileştirme konusunu bir arada değerlendirmeye çalışan ve taşra olgusunu nereye yerleştirebileceğimiz konusunda bir perspektif sağlayacak tartışmalardan oluşmaktadır. Sonrasında ise taşranın ötekileştirilmesi hususunun, tarihsel, siyasi, sosyolojik ve kültürel boyutları ele alınmaktadır. Çalışmanın asıl iddiası ise, taşrayı ötekileştirerek ele alan yaklaşımların, taşranın sosyo-kültürel gerçekliğine ulaşabilme konusunda bir eksikliği taşıyor olduğudur. Bu fikir çoğunlukla merkez ve çevre arasındaki ayrıma odaklanarak işlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın uygulama kısmında ise Kayseri özelinde, Kayseri'yi taşra kılan yaklaşımların, Kayserililer nezdindeki yorumu ortaya konmaya çalışmıştır. Sosyo-kültürel boyutlarıyla taşranın, kendi merkezini inşa edişi örneklendirilmeye çalışılmıştır.

Nowadays, the subject of“the provinces”has been discussed in various ways especially in literature and cinema. With this study, our purpose is to add some new knowledge to the discipline of sociology. The issue of provinciality has been surrounded by the studies of space and associated with the uncivilized manner and attitudes of inhabitants of country. In this study, these approaches have been evaluated both theoretically and practically. The first part is focused on the discussion that tries to put together the issues of city, space and othering and to help us to have a point of view about what should we understand the concept of provinces. Afterwards, the matter of othering the“the provinces”has been discussed historically, politically, sociologically and culturally. The main claim of the study is that the approaches which are based on othering the provinces miss the point and could not reach the socio-cultural reality of the provinces. This claim has mainly been focused on the separation of the center and the periphery. The field study of the thesis is based on the comments and ideas of the inhabitanst of Kayseri, especially the comments and ideas about whether Kayseri could be seen as a part of the provinces or not. On the last part, the study has tried to demonstrate the self-construction of the provinces as a“center”.
