Stockings constitute an important place whith in handcrafts. This study covers fifty hand-knit stockings from İsparta Museum. Researches have given out the result that these stocking were made of natural wool yarn by using five needles. From used in stockings can be classified into three groups according to their toes, heels and legs. Toes are either pointed or round shaped; heels are either straight or square; and legs are either short-ribbed, short-unribbed, long-ribbed or long-unribbed. A wide range of colors and motifs can be seen in these stockings, white, blue, red, black and orange are the colors used most trequently. The patterns used in the stockings are floral motifs, figures, geometrical and objective ornamentations. The most popular one is geometrical ornamentation. Floral motifs, antinatüralistic geometrical ornamentations have been worked diagramatically. Some of the motifs bear also meanings:“Gönül çengeli”,“Deli melek”,“Şehir yolu”are the most important ones. Motifs are either in the from of borders or they are scattered. Both compositions have been used in some samples. It is rather hard to say anything about the definite dates of the stockings. However, the second half of the 20 th. Century can be given as a general date according to the inventory registrations of the museum.
