SUMMARY in this research» named“Western Styled Theatre Life in Adana,, in Republic Era”, while theatre actions, theatres in Adana are being examined with their plays, play policies, players staff, playing places, f rom the -F irs t years of the Republic ti 11 today,, the relationship between the theatres and the audience is alsa analysıed. in order to make a realist i c and otajective estimation about ali these theatre entrepreneurships and their effectiveness« a view of point about the social»economic and historical structure of Adana, before and after Republic, is developed and theatre life is evaluated on this base, in Adana,, in the first years of the republic, Mestern Styled Theatre Life that begins with“Tuluat Theatres and Comparües”continues by the theatre activities of“Geçler Temsil Mahfe!i”(Youngers Play Community) and“Halkevi Temsil Şubesi”(Theatre Branch of Pu b l i c house), ~se 11.1 e d i n 1933--1 i 11 1950. Between the years of 1956-58 by the tours of Devlet Tiyatrosu (State Theatre), it is triecl to constitute arı environment far the Şehir Tiyatrosu (City Theatre) that suits Adana, a big city candidate. in 1958, on behalf of the Municipality of Adana, CityTheatre of the Municipality of Adana is established. For eight years, as the inner problems of Şehir Tiyatrosu (City Theatre) go parallel with“Theatre”, in 1965 Theatre is closed by the Municipality. The years of 60s. are the years that local amateur communities were settled in A dana. -such as Genç- 1 i k A m a t ö r T i y a t r o T o p 1 u 1 u g u, A d a n a S a n a t Tiyatrosu a n d Dost Oyuncular, in 1 966-- 67 season, again on behalf of the municipality, Devlet Tiyatrosu (State Theatre) tours, in 1969-70 season Istanbul Şehir Tiyatrosu (City Theatre of Istanbul) tours have been realised. But, these efforts are not longT live d and permanent. The years of 1970 are the years that theatre inflation all around the country also seems in Adana. At. the beginning of this period, lots of groups such as Dost“ Oyuncular, Çukurova Bölge Tiyatrosu, Genç Dostlar T i ya t r osu, Z a r j. ç 1 a r T i yat r osu, Hal k Oyu ncu 1ar, Çu k u r ova îsçi Tiyatrosu seem in Adana. Despite of the fact that the audience? is very limited in this city, the amount of local theatre communities increases. And nearly all of these theatre life of Adana; they prefer consuming rather than producing. Amo n g t hese commu n i t i es, ”Dos t Oyu n cu 1 a r“, in 1974, named as ”Ziyapasa Tiyatrosu“, for the first timein Adana, cooperated with the municipality and they started the theatre activities in 1974-75 season with the name ”Adana Belediyesi-Z iyapasa Tiyatrosu“. This local effort, lasted at the end of i 976-77 season. In 1977-78 season, Municipality Theatre Hall quests also A d a n a Hal k T i y a t r o s u ”At the beginning of 80s., in 1981 Adana Devlet Tiyatrosu (Adana State Theatre) started its activities. A second, Şehir Tiyatrosu (City Theatre) experience was tried between the years of 1980-83, but because of the inner problems and the indifference of the Municipality, this experience, Çagdas Sanat Merkezi for the reason of economic problems, stood only for a short period of t i me, f ou r yea r s“ Adana Devlet Tiyatrosu (Adana State Theatre), Fine Arts Department of Çukurova University, Gösteri Sanatları Merkezi and other local communities amounting to fifteen still try to survive in Adana. Although ”Western Styled Theatre Life“ has been surviving, a difficult and harsh adventure is faced by the theatre c o m m u n i t i e s a n d theatre - a u d i e n c e c o m m u n i c a t i o n an d r elationship. T hea t. res cou 1 d n :' t be i ns t i tu t i o na 1 i z e d, because they didn't live long. Besides, the art of ”theatre“ couldn't, become widespread in Adana. In this research, this ”mutual interaction“affecting the theatre life in Adana negatively is also interrogated. Conclusively, this problem which is also source d from the specific structure of Adana, cb.h be solved by a c o n t e m p o r a r y a n d real i s t. i c the a t. re pal i c y which is constituted by systemmatic and long- living studies ”
