Özet (Çeviri)

Uncertainties in market place force organisations to develop strategies to overcome bad effects of uncertainty. Practitioners and academicians also focused on reducing or managing uncertainty to create sustainable businesses. Manufacturing flexibility is one of the strategies to cope with uncertainty. Manufacturing flexibility is multi dimensional concept. Each dimension has different importance and relationships with different types of uncertainty faced by a manufacturer. Thus, it is a critical decision for a firm to use which types of flexibilities. Literature has been suggested that when flexibility is needed, which type of flexibility is needed in which situations, and how it can be implemented in production environment. In this research, need for volume flexibility for clothing industry in Turkey, and also sources are used by clothing producers to improve their volume flexibility is examined. For this purpose, literature has been reviewed first to understand needs for volume flexibility and how they can increase it in other countries and sectors. Case study research method was implemented in this paper to answer research questions. Data has been collected by structured questionnaire and interviews. Finally, results of our research show that fluctuations on demand are highly related with volume flexibility as other countries and industries. But, agreements have also huge impact on manufacturers to improve their volume flexibility due to the sub-contracting structure which is slightly different from literature has been focused on. In addition, labour strategy is the first source for small size producer to increase their volume flexibility while large sizes support their volume flexibility by their supply network.
