SUMMARY This study was carried out on 40 psoriatic patients (20 males, 20 females) who were admitted to Dermatology Department between February 1994-February 1995. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of streptococcal upper respiratory tract infections and pyoderma on the etiology of psoriasis. For this purpose, throat culture and measurement of ASO titers to all patients, and also a culture to one patient with pyoderma was conducted. We found that ASO titers were higher than normal on 23 patients (57.5%). Streptococci were produced in 26 (%65) throat cultures. Most of the patients in whom streptococcal infection was detected had guttate type of psoriasis. It has been seen that none of the patients had streptococcal pyoderma. As a result of our study, we seen that our findings were all consistent with the literatüre.
