Catamarans have been widely in use all around the world with varying mission profiles in different sizes. Therefore catamarans are subjected to many researches as more attention is needed to improve their poor seakeeping performance in rough seas and make them safer, faster and comfortable. To be able to this; some series of catamarans developed successfully with adopting conventional round bilge and hard chine monohull forms to catamaran. Comparatively, another novel monohull form, Deep-V was subject to investigation for applicability to catamarans as it has a potential for improvmg seakeeping of catamarans. Recently as a result of this purpose, in Newcastle University, the first Deep-V hull form catamaran series developed and applied to four harbour patrol and new research vessel of the University launched. Experimental investigations on marine vehicles continue to be vitally important and necessary in developing and analysing the vessels. In this term, comparison of Deep-V catamaran experimentally with well-known round bilge NPL catamaran had not been performed. Conducting this experiment was very beneficial not only for obtaining experimental comparison data but also for verification of the numerical results in this subject. This thesis is devoted to accomplish this purpose. Firstly, in addition to existing model of the Deep-V Research Vessel, an equivalent NPL model was developed and prepared for the tests of experimental comparison. To make an accurate comparison of resistance and seakeeping performance, the models had to be towed at the correct towing position which was not possible with the existing towing system in the University towing tank. After designing a tuning fork towing mrchanism for this purpose, new towing system was used in the experiment successfully. In this thesis, experimental preparation processes of acquiring new NPL model and new towing system is described. The thesis is presenting the experiment results of resistance and seakeeping comparison of Deep-V and NPL catamaran by using new towing design. Additionally obtained results of Deep-V model test by using the new tuning fork system are compared with the previous experiment results which the old towing system was used.
