This clinical research project reviewed the literature regarding attachment theory, how attachment is affected by loss, the role of fathers in daughters' attachment and social-emotional development, and the influence of loss of a father on daughters' attachment and social-emotional development. The aim of this literature review was to determine whether a daughter's loss of her father before the end of adolescence predisposes her to an insecure state of mind regarding attachment and examined what influence state of mind regarding attachment may have on a daughter's romantic relationships. In addition, the way in which a father died might influence the adult daughter's state of mind regarding attachment was examined. Based on the findings, it is proposed that if a woman loses her father before the end of adolescence, she will be predisposed to an insecure state of mind regarding attachment. In this case, the literature suggested that she is likely to have problems in her romantic relationships. In the field of attachment, little attention has been paid to if the way her father died influences the adult daughter's state of mind regarding attachment. However, based on the findings in the literature it is proposed that traumatic death could predispose one to an unresolved state of mind and that this could impact a daughter's adult romantic relationships.
