SUMMARY Acute rheumatic fever cases treated at the Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine Clinics, in the years 1986-1987-1988 were surveyed in this retrospec tive study. Hospitalized patients were evaluated with regard to age, sex, date of hospitalization, com plaints, previous history of ARF, clinical findings, laboratory findings, mode of therapy, mean hospitalization time, patient's environment, and occupation. It was concluded that acute rheumatic fever is a serious health problem in Turkey, that its complications are more difficult to treat than the initial disease, and therefore, more em phasis should be made on preventive measures, and that real statistical information is re quired to determine the seriousness of this disease in our country. 46
