fe?7- SUMMARY Ercümend Ekrem Talu is son of Recaîzade Mahmut Ekrem one of the isolated poets of the Tanzimat Literature. He was horn in 1888 in Istanbul and took a good education. After Servet-i Fünûn has ended, he had begun to publish his first writings while he was a student at Galatasaray. Following Meşrutiyet II.. he began journalism in the magazine of Ahmet Rasim and wrote anecdotes in different magazins until his death in 1956. Talu is en auther who witnessed the historical events happened during the World War I, the Armistice, the Independence ^ar and the Republicon periods. Although he was essentially a journalist, he wrote novels, tales, plays and anecdotes. And he also published humorous writings after the Armistice. He was we]l known in our literature with his two humorous characters; Meshedî Cafer and Torik Necmi. He had an important place in the humor area with tales. anacdotes and other kind of writings that he armistice and especially in early years of the Republicon period. We have studied Ercümend Ekrem who gave popüler works under three main titles. In the Introduction, the historical events of Talu's time and developments in the world of press and literature has outlined. In the first chapter titled“His life and his publication and press environment”the informations about the author's birth, family, education, posts, author ship and his relafions with literature environments was given. In the second chapter titled“His works-”we have gone into the author's work's such as novels, plays, anecdotes, tales, conferences in the chronological order. In the conclusion part titled "The place and valve of Ercümend Ekrem Talu in our literature, we have evaluated all of the author's works by using th^> informations that we derived. As» a result we have decided that Ercümend Ekrem Talu is an author who has written unguolified and popüler wri tings. We have added a detailed bibliography of the end of thesis. T.C.
