Özet
Bu çalışmada Hellenistik ve Roma dönemlerinde Pontos Bölgesi'nde yaşanan siyasi ve ekonomik gelişmeler incelendi. Özellikle antik dönemde Pontos Bölgesi'nin coğrafi yapısı ve stratejik konumunun bu havzada yaşanan siyasi ve ekonomik gelişmelerde nasıl bir rol oynadığı ortaya konuldu. Ayrıca Hellenistik ve Roma dönemlerinde Pontos Bölgesi'nin Kafkaslar ve Karadeniz'in kuzey kıyıları ile sürdürdüğü siyasi, ekonomik ve kültürel ilişkiler araştırıldı. Sonuçta bu ilişkilerin günümüzdeki Doğu Karadeniz kültürünün oluşmasındaki rolü gözler önüne serildi Hellenistik ve Roma Dönemlerinde Pontos adlı bu tez çalışmasında öncelikle sürekli kavram karmaşasına neden olan“Pontos”adının kökeni ve terminolojisi araştırıldı. Ardından Pontos Bölgesi'nin tarihi coğrafyası incelendi. Böylelikle coğrafyanın Pontos Bölgesi'nde yaşanan gelişmelerdeki rolü ortaya konuldu. Daha sonra Hellenistik ve Roma dönemlerinde Pontos Bölgesi'ndeki siyasi ve ekonomik gelişmeler araştırıldı. Bu araştırma ile Hellenistik ve Roma dönemleri boyunca Pontos Bölgesi'nde yaşanan siyasi ve ekonomik gelişmelerin bölge kültürüne ne derecede etki yaptığı ortaya konuldu. Sonuç olarak, Hellenistik ve Roma dönemlerinde oldukça önemli bir yere sahip olduğu tespit edilen Pontos Bölgesi'nin, bu süreçte önemli görevler üstlendiği anlaşıldı. Pontos'un zengin yer altı ve yer üstü kaynakları, değerli limanları, önemli ticaret ve geçiş yolları, bölgeyi daima değerli kılan unsurlar olduğu belirlendi. Aynı şekilde Pontos Bölgesi'nin Kafkaslar, Karadeniz'in kuzeyi ve Orta Asya ile ekonomik ve kültürel anlamda sürekli olarak bağlantı kurabildiği görüldü.

In the current study, the political and economic developments of the Pontos region during the Hellenistic and Roman periods are examined. Particularly, the effect of the geographical and strategic status of Pontos region in ancient times on the political and economic developments in this basin is presented. Additionally, the political, economic and cultural relations between Pontos region and Caucasus and the northern coasts of Black Sea during the Hellenistic and Roman periods are investigated. All in all, the effect of these relations on the culture of eastern Black Sea is presented. In the study entitled Pontos during the Hellenistic and Roman Periods, the origin and terminology of the name“Pontos”leading continuously to conceptual confusion is primarily examined. Then, the historical geography of the Pontos region is investigated. Thus, the role of the geography in the developments of the Pontos region is presented. Moreover, the political and economic developments of the Pontos region during the Hellenistic and Roman periods are examined. In the present study, to what extent the political and economic developments of the Pontos region during the Hellenistic and Roman periods affect the culture of the region is presented. In conclusion, this study concludes that the Pontos region having a relatively important place during the Hellenistic and Roman periods has a vital role in this process. It is identified that Pontos's rich underground and aboveground resources, precious harbours, and important trade and migration routes always make this region valuable. Similarly, it is found that the Pontos region is continuously able to be in contact with the Caucasus, the north of the Black Sea, and Middle Asia in terms of economics and culture.
