Özet

D.H.Lawrence edebiyat alanında 20. Yüzyılın en seçkin yazarlarından biridir. Romanlarında, esas olarak kadın-erkek ilişkilerini ve onların gerçek yaşamdaki günlük problemlerini ele almıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, D.H.Lawrence'ın Oğullar ve Sevgililer adlı romanında cinsiyet kavramını Oedipus Karmaşası ile ilişkili olarak analiz etmektir. Bu tez dört ana bölümden oluşur. Çalışmanın giriş bölümünde, D.H.Lawrence'ın biyografisi ve analiz edilen kitap hakkında genel bir bilgi verilir. Ayrıca, cinsiyet konusunda ve konunun edebiyattaki önemi hakkında inceleme yapılır. Tezin ikinci bölümü Lawrence'ın Oğullar ve Sevgililer adlı eserinde cinsiyet konusunu Morel ailesindeki ilişkiler üzerinden nasıl temsil etitğini esas alır. Tezin üçüncü bölümü roman boyunca cinsiyet rolü konusunun önemli bir parçasını oluşturan Paul Morel'ın annesine olan bağlılığı ve sevgilileri Miriam Leivers ve Clara Dawes'e olan aşklarını işler ve bu aşkın kendisinde yarattığı bedensel ve ruhsal bölünmeyi konu alır. Dördüncü bölüm eserdeki karakterleri Oedipus Karmaşası teorisine dayandırarak analiz eder. Sonuç bölümünde, bu tezde çalışılan konunun genel bir değerlendirilmesi yapılır.

D.H.Lawrence is considered as one of the most prominent writers of the 20th century in the realm of literature. In his novels, he mainly deals with the nature of the relationships between man and woman and their daily problems in real life. The aim of this work is to analyze the concept of gender in relation to Oedipus Complex in D.H.Lawrence's novel entitled Sons and Lovers . This thesis is made up of four main sections. The introduction part of this study gives general information about D.H.Lawrence's biography and the analyzed novel. Also, it clarifies the theme of gender and its significance of it in literature. The second part of this thesis analyzes Lawrence's specific interest in the theme of gender with its details and shows the representation of gender in Sons & Lovers through the interrelationships of the Morel family. The third part of this thesis eloborates the split Paul Morel experiences between his body and soul because of his attachment to his mother and of his love for Miriam Leivers and Clara Dawes that are clearly parts of the analysis of gender role issues throughout the novel, as well. In the forth part, the characters in Sons&Lovers are analyzed within the framework of Freud's theory of Oedipus Complex. The conclusion gives an overall evaluation about the purpose of the study.
