Fuat GÖKÇE Prof. Dr. Emine CANER-SAL1TK Haziran, 1994, 538 sayfa. Bu tezin amacı, Pakistan'ın Bahawalpur yöresinde, Uch kentinde 16. yüzyılda inşa edilmiş olan Bibi Jawandi Türbesi için bir restorasyon önerisi ortaya koymaktır. Tez, türbenin sağlamlaştırılması ve çevresinin düzenlenmesi için bir çerçeve önermektedir. Anıtın belgelenmesinde kullanılan yöntemin ayrıntılı tanımım, tarihsel araştırma ve karşılaştırmalı çalışmalar izlemektedir. Laboratuvar analizleri, araştırmalar içinde özel bir yer tutmaktadır. Tanımlanan problem, aslında fiziksel bozulma ve yapısal deformasyon sorunlarından oluşmasına karşın, her türlü araştırma, analiz, restitüsyon ve değerlendirmeyi içeren geniş kapsamlı bir metodolojiizlenmiştir. Bu tür bir yaklaşımın yaran, bilimselliğin yanısıra, korumaya ilişkin kararlan etkileyebilecek hiçbir adımın gözardı edilmemesini sağlamasıdır. Bu yöntem, yalnızca alınması gerekli önlemler için öneriler geliştirilmesine olanak vermekle kalmayıp, anıt, yakın çevresi ve kent ölçeklerinde müdahaleler için uzun vadeli bir çerçeve oluşturmaktadır. Bu anılın, Pakistan'daki bir çok kentte olduğu gibi, Uch'da sürmekte olan tarihsel, törensel ve dinsel uygulamalan kapsayan kültürel dinamiğin bir parçası olduğu bilinci, metodolojinin temelini oluşturmaktadır.

ABSTRACT THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE TOMB OF BIBI JAWANDI AND THE PRESENTATION OF ITS SITE CHEEMA Yasmin M.S. in Restoration, Architecture Supervisors: Instructor Fuat GOKCE Prof. Dr. Emine CANER-SALTIK June, 1994, 538 pages This thesis aims to produce a restoration proposal for the 16th century mausoleum of Bibi Jawandi at Uch, District Bahawalpur, Pakistan. The thesis proposes a framework for the consolidation of the tomb and the presentation of its site. A detailed description of the methodology applied for documenting the monument is presented, followed by an explication of the historical and comparative investigations made. A special place is assigned to the description of laboratory investigations. iiiThe problem defined is ultimately one of physical deterioration and structural deformation of the monument In spite of that, a comprehensive methodology involving all aspects of investigation, analysis, restitution and evaluation is followed. The advantage of such an approach is scientific rigor, and that no procedural step and its likely implication on careful decisions for conservation is ignored. The approach enables proposals not only for immediate interventions but also provides a longer term framework for intervention at the three tiered hierarchy of the monument, its immediate environment and the city as a whole. The main methodological emphasis is based on the realization that this monument is a part of an ongoing cultural dynamic that involves continuing historic, ritual and religious practices that the city of Uch, like many other cities of Pakistan is an example of.
