Özet
İffet, insandaki şehevi kuvvetin ifrat ve tefrite düşmeden yani helali olmayanlara şehvet hissi duymadan itidal yolda kanalize edilmesi anlamına gelmektedir. İnsandaki iffet cevherinin açığa çıkarılabilmesi için, hayâ duygusunu geliştirmek isabetli olacaktır. Toplum açısından iffetli olmak için de mahrem yerleri örtmek, evlenmek, buna gücü yetmeyenlerin ise oruç tutması tavsiye edilir. Çünkü iffetli bir toplum için kişisel çaba yeterli değildir. Topyekûn bir anlayış da gereklidir. Hz. Yusuf bağlamında iffet ise; bütün peygamberler ismet sıfatıyla donatıldıkları için, sıradan bir insanın bile iffetini muhafaza edebilmesi mümkün iken, davasını ispatlamak isteyen Hz. Yusuf?un bu menfur duyguyu ifrat derecesinde kullanması düşünülemez. Bu Allah?ın bildirisine göre ihlâslı olmanın gereğidir.

Chastity, it means that lustful thoughts of people become canalized in the way of moderation by not losing themselves in extravagancy and understatement, that is, not feeling lustful about the forbidden people and entirely staying away from being neutral. It is a right decision to strengthen sense of shame in order to reveal chastity quintessence in people. It is advised to people that they should cover private parts of their bodies, marry, fast if they can?t afford marriage in order to be modest with regards to society. Personal effort is not enough to establish a modest society. That is why total sensibility is necessary. In the context of Joseph the Prophet who wants to prove his claims, he cannot be extravagant in this loathsome sense which even normal people can stand against because all prophets are qualified with attribute of chastity, which is the necessity of being single-minded(the situation of being sincere) with respect to the revelation of Allah.
