Özet

38 SUMMARY Tlüs study was conducted to determine the effect of different sowing dates on yield and yield components of two sweet corn cultivars (Jubilee and Merit). The field trials have been carried out at the Experimental Area of Field Crops Department of Agricultural Faculty of Çukurova University in the year of 1992. The treatments were arranged in split design with tliree replications. The results of the research can be summarised as following: 1. Days to Harvest: In both cultivars Jubilee and Merit, transplanted plants in 1 April matured the earliest whereas, plants sown on 1 April liad longest growing ijcriod. Days to harvest decreased with delaying sowing. Transplants produced edible ears nearly 1 4 days earlier tlian direct-seeded plants. 2. Plant Height: The highest averaged plant height was measured on the Merit cultivar at all sowing dates. Also, plant lıiglıest, in direct-seeding were significantly higher tlian transplants. The plants, direct-seeded on 1 April showed liighest averaged plant height and the plants from transplants on 1 April were the shortest plants. Generally plant height was reduced by delayed sowing. 3. Height of First Ear: The averaged ear height was higher for all direct sowings tlian transplant. The lıiglıest value was obtained from plants, direct-seeded 10 April, while, lowest one from 1 April transplanting. h\ experiment, ear highest were higher for Merit tlian Jubilee cultivar. 4. Ear Length: Jubilee cultivar liad the longer ear tlian Merit, and direct sowings liad the longer ear tlian transplants. 'Hie longest ear was obtained from plants, seeded on 30 April while the shortest ears were obtained from transplants on 1 April. 5. Ear Diameter: Merit cultivar produced the greatest ear in comparison with Jubilee cultivar. Generally, ear diameter was decreased with late sowings. The lıiglıest ear diameter value was appeared on 1 April sowings and the lowest one in 20 April sowings. Ear diameter, from 1 April transplants was lower tlian 1 April sowings. 6. Number of Kernels per Ear: The number of kernel on ear of the cultivar Merit was lıiglıer tlian cultivar Jubilee. The liigher value was obtained from all direct sown tlian transplanting. In all direct sowings, these characters tended to increase by earlier sowing tlian later sowing. The lıiglıest value was obtained from plants sown on 10 April wliile the lowest one from 1 April transplanting.39 7. Number of Plant: It was slightly more in the cultivar Merit tlian Jubilee cultivar. The number of plants surviving until harvest were higher by transplanting tlian direct sowing. It tended to reduce with delaying sowing dale. The liighest value was obtained from the plants of cultivar Jubilee in the transplanted plots on 1 April and the lowest one from the cultivar Jubilee direct-sown on 30 April. 8. Number of Ear: The highest value was obtained from the transplanted on 1 April, wliile the lowest ones on 20 April sowings. The number of ear was lugher in the transplanted on 1 April tlian all direct sowings, hi all direct sowings, the lıiglıest value was obtained from 1 April sowing and generally these values tended to reduce with delaying sowing date. In cultivars, the lıiglıest value was obtained from Merit. 9. Number of Ear per Plant: The Itigher values were obtained from Jubilee than Merit cultivar. Direct sowing produced the higher ear |>er plant tlian transplanting wliile the ear per plant tended to reduce with delaying sowing dates. The highest value was optained from 1 April direct sowing wliile the lowest one from 1 April transplanting. 10. Fresh Ear Yield per Decar: 71 ıe higher values in tliis character were obtained from Merit tlian Jubilee cultivar. Transplanting produced the liigher fresh ear yield tlian direct sown wliile the yield tended to reduce with delaying sowing dates. The highest value was obtained from transplant on 1 April and the lowest one from 20 April sowing. 1 1. Cob/Grains Ratio: The liigher values were obtained from Jubilee than Merit cultivar. The ratio on 1 April transplants was lower than 1 April sowings. The liighest value was obtained from 1 April direct sowing wliile the lowest one from 10 April direct sowing. 12. Starch Ratio: The starch ratio of Merit was lugher tlian cultivar Jubilee, and 1 April transplants showed liigher starch ratio tlian plants sown on 1 April. Starch ratio tended to slightly increase with delaying sowing.
