Özet
Bu araştırmada obezitesi olan ergenlerin benlik saygısı, beden algısı ve ruhsal durumlarının değerlendirilmesi ve obez olmayan ergenlerle karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla araştırmaya obezite tanısı almış 50 ergen (25 kız, 25 erkek), yaş ve cinsiyeti eşleştirilmiş 50 normal kilolu ergen olmak üzere toplam 100 kişi dahil edilmiştir. Çalışmaya katılanlar, Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği, Beden Algısı Ölçeği ve Okul Çağı Çocukları için Duygulanım Bozuklukları ve Şizofreni Görüşme Çizelgesi- Şimdi ve Yaşam Boyu Şekli- Türkçe Uyarlaması (K-SADS) ile değerlendirilmiştir. Obez ergenlerde benlik saygısının anlamlı olarak daha düşük (p<0.05), beden algısının anlamlı olarak daha bozuk (p<0.001) olduğu ve daha fazla psikopatolojiye sahip oldukları (p<0.001) bulunmuştur. Obez grubun %28'inde major depresyon (p<0.05), %56'ında herhangi bir anksiyete bozukluğu (p<0.001) ve anksiyete bozukluklarının içerisinde de en fazla seperasyon anksiyetesi (%34; p<0.001) gözlenmiştir.Bu bulgular, obezite sorunu yaşayan ergenlerin psikiyatrik açıdan ayrıntılı olarak değerlendirilmeleri, ileriye dönük olarak izlenmeleri ve tedavide psikiyatrik bir destek almaları gerektiğini göstermektedir.

This research compares and contrasts self-esteem, the body image and the psychological state of obese adolescents to those of their normal-weight peers.The focus group is composed of 50 diagnostically obese adolescents and the control group is populated with 50 adolescents at benchmark weight, each weight group being equally halved in terms of gender.The participants were studied according to the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Body Cathexis Scale and Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Age Children- Present and Life time Version, (K-SADS-PL)-Turkish version.The study has shown that obese adolescents have a considerably lower level of self-esteem (p<0.05), they are highly dissatisfied with their bodies, (p<0.001) and they have developed more severe psycho pathology (p<0.001) compared to the control group.It has also been observed that 28 percent of the obese group suffers from major depression (p<0.05). 56 percent suffers from an anxiety disorder (p<0.001) the largest amount of which are suffering from separation anxiety (at 34 percent; p<0.001).The research results indicate that adolescents suffering from obesity should be subject to a more elaborate psychiatric study, should be monitored prospectively and receive psychiatric help during obesity treatment.
