Özet
Bireyler arasındaki hiçbir ayrım veya fark, bireylerin biyolojik anlamda erkek veya kadın oluşları kadar belirgin ve yaygın değildir. Fakat cinsiyet sadece biyolojik temelde anlam kazanmaz; sadece biyolojik özellikleri ifade etmez. Cinsiyet, birey açısından yaşamın daha ilk yıllarından itibaren toplumsal bir kategori olarak da anlam kazanmaya başlar. Takip eden yıllarda bireyin biyolojik cinsiyetini merkeze alan bir anlayışı, düşünüş, yaşama dünyası inşa olur. Oluşan bu dünyanın ismi toplumsal cinsiyettir. Toplumsal cinsiyet bireyin belli bir cinsten olduğuna ilişkin bilgiye, bu bilgi dahilinde olmak üzere toplumsal düzlemde bireyden beklenenlere ve toplumda bireye biçilen konuma işaret eder.Bu araştırma Türkiye'deki ilkokullarda okutulan kitaplardan hareketle tespit ettiği gibi, toplumsal cinsiyetin getirdiği ayrım ve de ayrımcılık varlığını devam ettiriyor olsa bile bu durumda bazı değişiklikler gözlenmektedir. Türk toplum yapısında erkek başat unsurdur. Dolayısıyla toplumsal yaşantının merkezinde yer alır. Kadının ise başlıca rolleri eş ve anne olmaktır.

Any discrimination or difference between individuals is not as specific as their being biologically man and woman. However, gender doesn?t mean something only in biological terms. Instead, it begins to make sense also as a social category for the individual beginning from the very first years of his / her life. In the following years, a new understanding, way of thinking, life-world is constructed which grounds on the biological gender of the individual. This new world is called as social gender. Social gender points at the knowledge related to the fact that the individual has a kind and within the compass of this knowledge it also points at the expectations from the individual in the social platform and the position of the individual in the society.In this study, as it has been shown through the books which are used in primary schools in Turkey, even difference and differentiation which derives from social gender continues to exist, some changes in this situation are seen. In Turkish society man is the dominant figure. So he is in the centre of social life. However woman?s main roles are being wife and mother.
