Özet
Bu çalışma, Edmund Burke'ün modernite eleştirisini göstermeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bunun için ilk olarak modernite ? akıl ilişkisi üzerinde durulmaktadır. Burada modernitenin soyut akıl anlayışına dayandığı ve soyut aklın ürünlerinin moderniteyi şekillendirdiğine işaret edilmiştir.Burke'ün modernite eleştirisi de bu akıl anlayışına ve bu aklın ürünlerine yöneliktir. Burke'ün bu eleştirisi salt bir tepki değil, kendi akıl anlayışına bağlı olarak gelişen bir eleştiridir. Bu çalışmada, Burke'ün akıl anlayışını merkeze almaktadır.Burke, bu akıl anlayışı ile aynı zamanda muhafazakâr politik düşüncenin içerisinde konumlanır. Muhafazakâr politik felsefe ve liberal politik felsefe arasındaki ayrımı farklı akıl anlayışlarının bir çatışması olarak ifade edebiliriz. Bu bakımdan, liberal politik felsefe soyut akla bağlı olarak bir gelişim gösterirken, muhafazakâr politik felsefe ise tarihsel deneyime dayanan bir akıl anlayışını ön plana çıkarmıştır. Burke de, soyut akıl anlayışını, tarihsel ve toplumsal bağlamından kopuk olması bakımından eleştirir. Burke için akıl, tarihsel ve toplumsal bir bağlamın içerisindedir.Burke tarihsel deneyime dayanan bu akıl anlayışını, politik akıl olarak kavramlaştırır. Bu çalışmada, politik akıl ve tarihsel deneyim arasındaki ilişki, Burke'ün akıl anlayışını açmak için üzerinde durulan bir diğer konu olmuştur.Burke'ün modernite eleştirisi de, onun politik akıl anlayışına bağlı olarak bir gelişim göstermiştir. Bu bakımdan, Burke'ün soyut akla ve soyut aklın ürünlerine yönelik eleştirisi onun modernite eleştirisini oluşturur. Burke'ün modernite eleştirisi, onun tarihsel deneyim vurgusu ile beraber gitmektedir. Nitekim, Burke için modernite tarihsel mirasın reddidir. Bunun sonucu da tarihsel süreklilik algısının kırılması ve toplumsal düzensizliktir.

This study aims to show Edmund Burke?s critique of modernity. In order to do this, first, it focuses on the relationship between modernity and reason. Here, it is pointed out that modernity is based on the concept of abstract reason and the outcomes of abstract reason shape the modernity.Burke?s criticism of modernity is directed against to this concept of reason and to the outcomes of this concept. Burke?s criticism is not just a reaction but also a criticism developed in connection with his own concept of reason. Burke?s concept of reason is the center of this study.Burke, at the same time, is categorized in conservative political thinking with his concept of reason. One can express the distinction between conservative poitical philosophy and liberal political philosophy as the clash of different concepts of reason. In this respect, conservative political philosopy highlights the concept of reason which is based on historical experience while the liberal political philosopy totally dependent on the concept of abstract reason. Burke, too, criticizes the concept of abstract reason with respect to its disconnectedness with historical and social context. For Burke, the reason is always found in a historical and social context.The concept of reason which is based on historical experience is conceptualized as poitical reason by Burke. The relationship between the political reason and historical experience has become another subject matter in the study in order to open up the Burke?s concept of reason.Burke?s criticsim of modernity is developed in connection with his concept of political reason. With in this regard, Burke?s criticism of abstract reason and its outcomes constitutes the basis of his criticism of modernity. And this criticism of modernity of his, goes hand in hand with his emphasis on historical experience. For Burke, indeed, modernity is the rejection of historical heritage. The result of this rejection is the social disorder and the break in the perception of historical continuity.
