Özet
ii ÖZET Bu çalışmada D. H. Lawrence ' m Sona and Lovers f Oğullar ve Sevgililer) adlı otobiyografik eserinde kullanılan imgelerin, eserin Türkçe'ye yapılan dört farklı çevirisindeki aktarımları incelenmiştir. Dört ana bölümden oluşan bu çalışmanın ilk bölümünde D. H. Lawrence "m yaşadığı dönem, sosyal, siyasi ve edebi açıdan incelenmiştir. Lawrence 'm dönemine katkıları, edebi kişiliği, eserleri ve özellikle Sons and Lovers adlı romanı anlatılmış ve kitabın bir özeti verilmiştir. ikinci bölümde ise, imge aktarımı hakkında bilgi verilmiş ve imge aktarımının Lawrence 'm bu kitabındaki önemi vurgulanmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde 1959 'da Nihal Yeğinobalı, 1985 'de Tülin Nutku, 1986 'da Cem Tay lan ve 1992 'de Mete Ergin tarafından yapılan çevirilerden seçilen örnekler ışığında imge aktarımının dört değişik çeviride nasıl sağlandığı her çeviri için ayrı ayrı değerlendirilmiştir. Dördüncü bölümün ilk kısmında dört çeviriden alınan örnekler imge aktarımı açısından karşılaştırılmış ve değerlendirilmiştir, ikinci kısımda ise dört çevirinin, imge aktarımı ve çok genel bir değerlendirmesi yapılmış ve çevirinin Türkiye'de değişen konumuna değinilmiştir.

iii ABSTRACT This work aims at studying the imagery in D.H.Lawrence's autobiographical novel Sons and Lovers and analyzing the transfer of imagery in the four different translations undertaken by Nihal Yeginobalx, Tülin Nutku, Cem Tay lan and Mete Ergin, in the years 1959, 1985, 1986, 1992, respectively. There are four chapters in this study. The first chapter introduces D.H.Lawrence to the reader and gives information about his life, time and art. A brief summary of the book is provided together with the outstanding points of Lawrence's style in the novel. The second chapter is a study of the imagery in the novel and various examples of transferring these images into the TL text, that is into Turkish. The third chapter deals with examples chosen to indicate how adequate the transfer of some of the images has taken place in each translation separately. The conclusion is a contrastive analysis of the the examples chosen from each translation and reflects how each translator dealt with the same imagery. Also some points about the different approaches to translation in time are taken up with reference to the four translations in question.
