Özet
Temettu kâr etmek anlamına gelen Arapça bir kelimedir. Osmanlı Tarihinde kullanılan temettuat tabiri ise bu kelimenin çoğulu olup, XIX. Yüzyılda reayanın sayısını, maddi durumunu tespit etmek amacıyla yapılan sayımlardır. Temettuat defterlerinde; eyalet, sancak, kaza, gibi iskân merkezlerine bağlı köyler ve mahalleler hane hane ele alınarak hane reislerinin isimleri, yıllık kazançları, arazisi, hayvanâtı, gayr-i menkulleri ve bunların kıymeti gibi teferruatlı bilgilere ulaşabilmek mümkündür. Bu tahrirler az da olsa H. 1256/M. 1840 yılını, genellikle de H. 1260-1261/M. 1844-1845 yıllarını kapsadığı için Tanzimat Fermanı sonrası Osmanlı Devleti taşrasının sosyo-ekonomik durumunun incelenmesi açısından önemli kaynaklar olarak görülmektedir. Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivi'nde, Maliye Nezareti Varidat Muhasebesi Defterleri tasnifi içerisinde 9 katalogda 17.747 temettuat defteri bulunmaktadır. Örnek seçilen, Eskişehir Kazası'na ait Temettuat defterleridir. Kazanın temettuat tahriri H. 1260-1261/1844-1845 yılında yapılmış olup, Kaza'ya ait, 26 köy ve 5 mahalle defteri olmak üzere toplam 31 defter kaydı bulunmaktadır. Bu defterlerden elde edilen veriler ışığında Eskişehir Kazası'nın XIX. yüzyıl ortalarında sosyo-ekonomik yapısı ortaya koyulmuştur.

Temettu is word meaning ?making profit? in Arabic language. The term ?temettuat? used in Ottoman history is the plural form of this word and which was used for the purpose of determining the number and financial status of reyahs in 19th century. In temettuat records, detailed information such as names of heads of households, their annual incomes, land area, property, animals and the value of them can be found for each village and neighborhood connected to places of residence such as states, shires, towns. As these documents cover some part of the year H. 1256/M. 1840 and most of the year H. 1260-1261/M. 1844-1845, they can be valuable in terms of investigating the socio-economic states of the rural areas in Ottoman State in the period following the declaration of The Rescript of Gülhane. In the Ottoman Archive of the Presidency, there are totally 17,747 temettuat record books under nine category within the classification of Maliye Nezareti Varidat Accounting Notebooks. Among these, the ones belonging to the township of Eskişehir were selected as samples. The temettuat census was performed in H. 1260-1261/1844-1845, there are 26 village and 5 neighborhood record notebooks. In light of the data obtained from these notebooks, the socio-economic state of Eskişehir township in 19th century was revealed.
