Özet
Lojistik, üretim ve tüketim noktaları arasındaki malzeme ve bilgi akışının koordinasyonu ve planlaması ile ilgilenmektedir. Dünya genelinde ulaştırma ve lojistikteki gelişmelerle birlikte üretim ve tüketimin etkinliği artmıştır. Ekonomide öne çıkan bir faaliyet olarak lojistik sektörünün sosyal ve ekonomik kalkınmada önemli bir rolü bulunmaktadır.Lojistik faaliyetlerin otoyol ve limanlara yakın olan yerlere yoğunlaşma eğilimi bulunmakta ve lojistik firmaları pazara ve girdiye erişim olanaklarının en iyi olduğu yerlerde konumlanmaktadır. Aynı zamanda ekonomi ve sanayinin gelişmesi lojistik sektörü açısından önemli bir avantaj olarak görülmektedir.Bu çalışmada Kocaeli'ndeki lojistik sektörünün durumu irdelenmiş ve şehrin lojistik potansiyeli ele alınmıştır. Kocaeli'nin bulunduğu bölgede sektörün yoğunluğu ölçülmüş ve bölgede sektörün güçlü bir yoğunluğa sahip olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Türkiye'de iller düzeyinde sektörün gelişmişliği ise oluşturduğumuz bir endeks yardımıyla hesaplanmış ve Kocaeli'nin yüksek bir endeks değeri ile öne çıktığı görülmüştür. Bununla beraber Kocaeli'nin Türkiye'de lojistik açıdan bir üs olabilmesi, kentin ulaştırma altyapısının gelişimine ve kentte ekonomik faaliyetlerin artmasına bağlı bulunmaktadır.

Logistics deals with the planning and control of material flows and related information from supplier to consumption. With improvements in transportation and logistics, the efficiency of production and consumption has reached an important point. As a significant activity, the logistics industry has become a leading industry, playing an important role in social and economic development.Logistics employment tends to concentrate in areas adjacent to motorways and ports and locates where it has the best access to markets and inputs. At the same time developed economy and industry has a great effect for improved logistics sector.In this study, the situation of logistics sector in Kocaeli is discussed and the city?s logistics potential is assessed. Concentration of transportation sector was measured for Kocaeli region and a strong concentration of logistics employment was found in this area. The logistics development levels of provinces in Turkey estimated through the index and Kocaeli comes into prominence with its high index score. However, Kocaeli?s ability of being a logistics base in Turkey depends on the development of the city?s transportation infrastructure and economic activities.
