Özet
Modernizmin başladığı 19.yüzyılın ilk yarısından günümüze kadar bir süreçte heykel sanatı özelinde ve ?boşluk? kavrayışı bağlamıyla irdelenen tezde, üç ana bölüm bulunmaktadır. Birinci bölümde, modernist döneme hazırlık sürecinde heykel sanatının biçim-içerik bağlamlarıyla açıklanması, söz konusu süreçte heykel sanatının geçirdiği evrimi açıklamaya yardımcı olmaktadır. 20. yüzyıla gelindiğinde ise özellikle biçimsel ?yeni?liklerin açıklanmasıyla ?boşluk? kavrayışının temel bir kavram olarak belirdiği gözlenmektedir. ?Boşluk? kavramının özellikle felsefe disiplininde temel kavramlardan biri olması dolayısıyla, anılan kavramın açıklamaları yapılmıştır. Heykel sanatının üç boyutlu bir üretim olduğu öncüllenerek yapılan araştırmalarda fizik disiplininden de yararlanılmış, ?üreten-iş-izleyen? ekseninde ?boşluk?un nasıl bir dönüşüme uğradığı tartışılmıştır. Modernizm sonrası dönem için ise bilimsel ve teknolojik gelişmeler göz önünde bulundurularak ?boşluk? kavrayışının ?entropi? ve ?sintropi? gibi kavramlara dönüşmekte olduğu gözlenmiştir. Heykel sanatının, sanat tarihi disiplininde bir tür art alana itilmiş olduğu görüldüğünden, heykele yönelik terimlerin açıklamaları için bir Terimler Sözlüğü oluşturulmuştur. Bir taraftan biçimsel çözümlemelerle heykel sanatının gelişimi incelenirken, bir diğer taraftan da heykeltıraş-heykel ve izleyicinin gelişiminin paralelliği tartışılmıştır.

This thesis which explicates the art of sculpture in particular and with the context of concept of ?space? from the beginning of Modernism in the first half of the 19th century until present day, comprises of three main parts. In the first part, the explanation of sculpture with the context of form - content in the preparatory period of Modernism is given and the evolution of sculpture is discussed. In the 20th century it is observed that with the expounding of formal innovations, the concept of ?space? emerges as a basic concept. An explanation has been given, since the concept of ?space? is a basic concept of the discipline of philosophy particularly. The discipline of physics is used to inquire the three dimensional quality of sculpture which is taken as a precursor and how space has transformed is debated in the axis of artist- work of art- spectator. In the light of scientific and technological developments, it is observed that the concept of ?space? is transformed into concepts like ?entropy? and ?syntropy? for the period of after Modernism. Since the art of sculpture is considered as secondary in the discipline of history of art, a glossary is given for the terms about sculpture. While on the one hand the development of the art of sculpture is studied using formal analysis, on the other hand the parallel development of sculptor- sculpture and spectator is debated.
