ABSTRACT A RULE-BASED APPROACH TO FAULT DIAGNOSIS OF MACHINE TOOLS KARIMLJafar M.S. in mechanical Engineering Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Hakki ESKICIOGLU 1993, 82pages The aim of the present study is to develop a Rule-Based system which helps the user to find sources of problems in machine tools. A rule based expert system in ART-1M programming language is developed for this purpose. The diagnosis of machine tools is formulated to adopt the Artificial Intelligence techniques. In this study, four types of machine tools are considered. These are lathes, milling machines, grinding machines and drilling machines. For each machine tool type, an interactive dialog is carried out with the user to determine the sources of errors. The questions which are used in the interactive dialog can be divided into two groups; questions related to the machining parameters and questions related to the problem on machine tooL mkuUanilim veriler. Neden ve sonuç ilişkisi bir agac yapisi seklinde tanimlanmistir ve agac üzerindeki kesişme noktalarda verilerle göstermektedir. Sistemin cikarim makinasi, kesişme noktalari arasında bir cikarim elde eder ve kullanicidan, soru-cevap biçiminde bilgi toplayarak problemin kaynagini bulur.
