ABSTRACT The Seyfe Lake is situated almost in the middle of Central Anatolia, and it is about 227 kilometers o-f Ankara. The waters of the Sey-fe Lake, which is located on an sndoreic basin, are very salty. The Sey-fe Lake and the vicinity have a semi-arid climatic -feature. Despite the dry summer months, the region gets plenty of rain in the winter months. The mountainous areas, which consist of metamorphic rocks such as marble and micaschist, surround the Seyfe Lake from north to south. The hilly areas are the east of the region. Quite a vast and slightly undulated flat area encircles the Seyfe Lake. The Lake ovrflows in winter, enlarging its basin, but retreats in the summer months» The major characteristic of the Seyfe Lake is that it is one of the most significant heavenly bird sanctuaries in Turkey. Every year, thousands of migrant birds visit here. While some of these birds dwell the sanctuary temporarily, and then, continue their journeys, some spend the whole winter in the Seyfe Lake. Whereas many different species of birds can be spotted in the sanctuary, the Flamingos and duck are in majority. Hunting should be banned and any projects which will endanger the lake should be stopped in order to preserve the ecosystem of the Seyfe Lake. It would be most appropriate to declare the lake and the vicinity a national park and assess the touristic potentials. 77 -
