SUMMARY The ionic capitals, created by the ionic architectures at the beginning of the second quarter of the 6th century, gave rise to a problem as they were brought to light. Because the ionic capitals had two fronts, they could not be completely settled at the corners. When ionic capitals are used at the corners facing front, the fine ornamented sections stand next to the volute faces of the capitals, placed on the all part of the building, in an impropery way. This disturbs the people who are looking at the temple from this side. There, the ionian architects had to face a problem other than the dor-tryliph problem. Because of this reason, the architects, as a proper solution to the problem at the corners, developed a ionic angle capital using volute curls on both front faces and polsters on the sides. The polsters intersected at the interior corner that drew less attention. And we can first see this kind of ionic angle capitals at the second quarter of the 5th century at the Attic buildings. The earlier examples at Asia Minor could be brought to light in small fragments, therefore they do not give us an idea of the shape of the ionic angle capitals. Although the reconstruction charts related to this are being accepted, they should be taken as a hypothesis. At the classic period new solutions were tried related to the early examples of the ionic angle capitals of the archaic period. We 103face a new form at the Xanthos Nereidler Monument. The i oni c angle capital that we find here is different from the other i oni c angle capitals This is a capital with four fronts. On each face, the volute faces of the normal ionic capital has been used. it is seen that during the hellenistic and roman periods, the archaic and classic solutions stili continue, as they add to them the fashion of the era.
