Özet
Türkiye'de bilim alanında varlık gösteren kadınlar, ağırlıklı olarak üniversitelerde görev yapmaktadır. 2008 yılı itibarıyla, ülkemizdeki üniversitelerde 3458 kadın akademisyen çalışmaktadır ve bunların yaklaşık dörtte biri profesör düzeyindedir. Günümüzde dünyanın en gelişmiş ülkeleriyle kıyaslandığında daha iyi konumda bulunan kadın bilim insanlarımızın, başlangıçtan bugüne kadar nasıl bir yoldan geçtiği, hangi alanlarda en çok katkı verdiği ve neden bazı alanlarda yoğunlaştıkları konusunda yapılmış bütüncül bir çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Bu çalışma bahsedilen hususları tespit etmeyi ve bu konuda bir çerçeve oluşturmayı amaçlamaktadır.

This study evaluates the situation of female Turkish academicians in three sections excluding introduction and conclusion, from the beginning to today in respect of their contributions to sciences.In the first chapter of section one forming two subdivisions, the relationship between sex and sciences is studied in order to make clear prejudices and facts. For this purpose, firstly it was decided whether there were obstacles in their way to science were inspected. Secondly after diagnosing the basic philosophical obstacles, the invisibility of the efforts of female scientists was tried to show throughout the history. In the second chapter, the educational facilities for Turkish women were studied from historical point of view.In the second section, the distribution of female Turkish academicians according to their fields was given. Then, the arguments of distinguished social scientists on this issue were discussed.In the third section, consisting of four chapters, prominent female Turkish academicians and their contributions to sciences -the main aim of this study- summarised. In these chapters female Turkish academicians and their contributions in health sciences, social sciences, basic sciences and, engineering and architectural sciences are introduced successively. The study ends with conclusions obtained from evaluations.
