ABSTRACT Recently different techniques have been applied in wastewater treatment. Here the application of perlite on wastewater treatment is investigated. Perlite being a porous material (in expanded state) with high free surface area, has good absorbing and adsorbing capacity. Theory on filtration depends on many assumptions and due to changing water characteristics it is hard to combine -theory with practice. In this thesis filtration experiments are done and their results are investigated on the selected parameteres. Different alternatives on filtration are tested. Combination of filtrations with chemical treatment are also tested. Theoretical informations are given on filtration and cake filtration. Vacuum and pressure cake filtrations are explained with and their tests methods are also given.
