Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı, günümüze kadar ileriye sürülmüş yeni teorileri sistemli olarak incelemek ve serbest ticaretin ekonomik büyüme üzerinde rolü olup olmadığını gelişmekte olan ülkeler üzerinde ampirik olarak test etmektir. Serbest ticaret ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişki, son dönemde önemli araştırma konularından biri haline gelmiştir. Klasiklerden beri hakim teorik görüş, serbest ticaret ve ekonomik büyüme arasında pozitif bir ilişki olduğudur.Çalışmada ayrıca 1996-2007 dönemi itibariyle 93 gelişmekte olan ülke üzerinde panel veri analizi yöntemiyle serbest ticaret ve ihracatın ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisi test edilmiştir. Bu ülkeler ticaret serbestliğine göre dört gruba ayrılmıştır. Ampirik sonuçlar OLS ve Hausman sabit etki modeline dayanmaktadır. Tüm gruplar için serbest ticaret değişkeni anlamsız çıkmıştır. Yani gelişmekte olan ülkeler için serbest ticaretin ekonomik büyüme üzerinde etkisi bulunmamaktadır. Diğer taraftan ihracat değişkeni tüm gruplarda anlamlı çıkmış ve pozitif işarete sahiptir. Yani ihracatın ekonomik büyüme üzerinde olumlu bir etkisi vardır.Uygulamalı literatürde, sınırlı sayıda çalışma serbest ticaret ve ekonomik büyüme arasında istatistiksel ilişki olmadığı sonucuna ulaşsa da, çok sayıda çalışma serbest ticaretin ekonomik büyüme üzerinde pozitif etkisi olduğunu ortaya koymuştur.

The aim of this study is to systematically explain the new theories to the date related to free trade-economic growth nexus and to emprically test for whether there is a role of free trade on economic growth in the case of developing countries. The relationship between free trade and economic growth has been one of the most important research topics in recent years. Since classical economics, the dominant view is that there is a positive correlation between free trade and economic growth.Besides examining the theoretical literature, this study analyzed the impacts of free trade and exports on economic growth by using econometric analysis of panel data for 93 developing countries in the period of 1996-2007. These countries were classified into four groups in terms of their trade freedom. Empirical results were obtained from both OLS and fixed effects estimators. The results show that free trade variable is not statistically significant for all groups, implying that free trade has no impact on economic growth for the selected developing countries. On theother hand, the coefficient on export variable is statistically significant and positive for all groups, which indicates that exports have a positive impact on economic growth.Within the applied literature, even though limited number of the studies concludes that there is no significant correleation between free trade and economic growth, many of the studies support evidence of positive impact of free trade on economic growth.
