Özet
Bu çalışmada, biyoloji eğitimindeki yabancı terim sorunu ele alınmıştır. Ortaöğretim biyoloji ders kitaplarında geçen yabancı terimler belirlenerek öğrencilerin bu terimleri ne ölçüde özümsedikleri tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.Veri toplama aracı olarak, lise biyoloji ders kitaplarında geçen yabancı terimlerin öğrenciler tarafından ne ölçüde özümsendiğini tespit etmek amacıyla hazırlanmış olan başarı testi (biyoloji terimleri testi) kullanılmıştır.Araştırmanın örneklemini, 2007?2008 eğitim-öğretim yılı güz döneminde, Ankara'da bulunan Alparslan Anadolu Lisesi, Atatürk Anadolu Lisesi, Gazi Çiftliği Lisesi ve Mimar Sinan Lisesi'nde öğrenim gören fen bölümü lise ikinci ve lise üçüncü sınıf öğrencileri (Toplam 762 kişi) oluşturmuştur.İstatistiksel analizlerde SPSS programından yararlanılarak, öğrencilerin test sorularına verdiği cevapların frekans (f) ve yüzdeleri (%) hesaplanmıştır.Yapılan istatistiksel analizler sonucunda, düz lise öğrencilerinden; lise 2. sınıf öğrencilerinin genel başarı yüzdesi %35,8; lise 3. sınıf öğrencilerinin genel başarı yüzdesi ise %46,9 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Anadolu lisesi öğrencilerinden; lise 2. sınıf öğrencilerinin genel başarı yüzdesi %58,2; lise 3. sınıf öğrencilerinin genel başarı yüzdesi ise %70,4 olarak hesaplanmıştır.Öğrencilerin genel başarı yüzdelerinin beklenenden düşük olduğu görülmüştür. Anadolu lisesi öğrencilerinin genel başarı yüzdeleri, düz lise öğrencilerine oranla daha yüksektir. Gerek düz lise gerekse Anadolu lisesi lise 3. sınıf öğrencilerinin başarı yüzdeleri lise 2. sınıf öğrencilerinden daha yüksektir.Sonuç olarak; biyoloji ders kitaplarında çok sayıda yabancı terimin yer aldığı belirlenmiştir. Biyoloji eğitiminde yabancı terimlerin kullanılmasının öğrencilerin başarılarını olumsuz yönde etkilediği, öğrencilerin yabancı terimleri doğru algılama ve özümsemede zorluk çektikleri tespit edilmiştir.

This study is conducted to indicate the matter of foreign terminology in the instruction methods of biology education. Foreign originated terms are identified within the junior high school biology textbooks and students are allowed to determine the level of comprehension of the given terminology.The tool used for data collection is the achievement test (biology terminology questionnaire) prepared to evaluate the level of comprehension of the foreign originated terminology among the students.The sampling of this study is composed of the students enrolled to science major junior and senior classes (totals to 762 subjects) in Alparslan Anadolu High School, Atatürk Anadolu High School, Gazi Çiftliği High School and Mimar Sinan High School into 2007-2008 fall semester.For the statiscal analysis SPSS program has been utilized, responses of the students to the given questions are calculated by the frequency (f) and percentage (%) measures.The results of the statistical analysis, among the state high school students; junior class students? average achievement percentage is 35.8%, senior class students? average achievement percentage is 46.9%. Among the Anadolu High School students; junior class students? average achievement percentage is 58.2%, senior class students? average achievement percentage is 70.4%.The average percentages of achievement rates came out less than expected. The general scored of Anadolu high schools were higher than those of the state high school students. Both the senior class students from state and Anadolu high schools scored were higher than the junior classes of all schools subject to this study on the given test.As a result; intense usage of foreign vocabulary has been detected in the biology textbooks. Foreign vocabularies utilized for biology education have adverse effects on the students? achievement rates, students face difficulties on perceiving and comprehending the foreign terminology.
