VVorshipping Goddess Kybele had been vvidespread almost ali över Anatolia although it basically developed in the interior regions of Anatolia. Kybele is acknovvledged as a Phrygian goddess by ancient writers. Hovvever, when Phrygians first came to Anatolia, they integrated the Mother Goddess cult already existent vvithin the cultures of the people living in Anatolia into their own culture. The same goddess has been encountered under the names“Kupapa-Kubaba”as in ancient Anatolian dialects, when uninscribed objects, objects with hierogliphic inscriptions and objects from the Late Hittite Period are examined. VVorshipping Kubaba was especially effective in Kargamış and its vicinity passing to the west most probably through Kargamış-Tabal. Ritual inscriptions and some objects from the 2nd millenium B.C., before the Hittite Period, found at Kültepe, has shown that the same goddess was also called and described as“Kupapat”. Although steatopigic female figurines from Prehistoric Ages couldn't be named as Kubaba-Kybele since no documents exist, they, actually originate from the same belief. These female figurines have been described as“Mother Goddess”and universal“Nature Goddess”. According to inscriptions and other archaeological evidences, vvorshipping Kybele was a continuous process över a long period for the people who lived in Anatolia, reaching its summit during the Phrygian Period. The only cult in Anatolia having continuity is that of Kybele.
