Özet

11 ÖZET Bilim kurgu, kaynağı Gotik Roman olan bir roman ve kikaya türüdür. Bilim kurgu ilk defa Eski Yunan' da başlamış olsada, gerçek başlangıcın Mary W.Shelley'nin Frankenstein' ı olduğu kabul edilmektedir. Bu edebiyat türü temalarını mitolojiden ve masallardan alır ve bilim kurgu sayesinde arki tipler uzay kahramanları olmuşlardır. Tür mitlerin, masalların, folklorun ve bilimin bir bileşiminden olmuştur ve bilim kurgu bu bileşimden yaratılmıştır. Eski ve yeninin bu karışımı türün temelini oluşturur. Bilim kurgu değişimle (zamanda, evrende ve dünya dışı yaratıklarla ilişkide) ilgilenir. Durağan hikayelere ve durağan ortamlara karşı çıkar ve neredeyse her zaman birçok ilginç temayı kullanmakta başarılıdır. Bu çalışmada incelenen kitaplar bilim kurgunun dört değişik evresinden seçilmiştir. Her kitapta anlatımlar ve stiller büyük ölçüde değişik olduğu halde bunlar bu tezde incelenmemiştir. Kitaplarda üzerinde durulan ana noktalar mitler ve bilimdir. Tezde kitaplar incelenirken mitolojik ve dini motifler araştırılmıştır. Ayrıca, bilimsel verilerin kullanımıda göz önünde bulundurulmuştur. Ancak önemli bir nokta ise genellikle SF diye adlandırılan bu bileşim, şimdi edebiyatın bir parçası olarak kabul edilip üniversitelerde incelenmesine ragmen, uzun seneler bir olay konusu olmuştu. Tezin amaçlarından biri de mitler ve din kanalıyla türünIll edebiyatla olan ilişkisini vurgulamaktır. Tez, değişik zamanlarda yazılan kitapların mitolojik ve dini özelliklere sadık kalıp tekrarladığını ve kitapların bu özellikleri etkileyip geliştirdiğini göstermektedir. Bu da bilim kurgunun eski gelenek ve görenekleri koruyup bunlardan çağa uygun bir mitolojik görünümü oluşturup geliştirdiğini i spa 1 1 amak t ad ı r.

IV ABSTRACT Science fiction is a genre in literature which has its origins in the Gothic Novel. The history of science fiction starts from Ancient Greece but the true start is considered to be Mary W.Shelley's Frankenstein. The genre generally takes its themes from old myths and tales and the archetypal heros are taken to space through science fiction. The genre is a combination of myths, tales, folklore and science, and it is this combination that creates science fiction. This mixture of old and new is the basis of the genre. Science fiction deals with change (times, universes and relationsihps with aliens) It resists static stories and static environments, and it is nearly al ways successful in using its various interesting themes. The books examined in this study are chosen from four different eras of science fiction. Although the narrations and styles immensely differ in all of the works these methods are not examined in the thesis. The main points of interest in the works are the use of myth and science. While examining the books, the thesis surveys mythological and religious motifs. Also, it considers the use of scientific facts. However, the important fact is that the mixture which is very much loved and read all over the world, generally called SF, is now considered as a part of literature and studied in various universities although it was an object of scorn for many years. One of the aims of the thesis is toemphasize its connections with literature through myths and religion. The thesis demonstrates that the books examined from different eras repeat these mythological and religious patterns, and the books show patterns of influence and development. This proves that science fiction has preserved the ancient patterns and traditions and has developed and established a mythic vision in this age.
