VI SUMMARY In this research, some variables which effect the productivitiy of the lignite workers have been investigated. The population of this research has been limited the workers who are working in lignite mines belonging to the Turkish Coal and lignite Mines. As a model sample, 256 workers have been randomly chosen among a total of 10500 workers from the 5 galeries of Tunçbilek region of Tavşanlı, in Kütahya. In this research, a questionnaire form has been administered to the workers to determine the various factors effecting the productivity of the workers concerned. The amount of lignite extracted in one year by each worker was found from the records kept by the Administration and these values were used to compare the differences between the variables in the questionnaire. Statistical evaluation of the data obtained by the questionnaire has been achieved by a computer programme using the so called“micro statistics”packet programme. The significance level of the average differences of productivity between the variables, were tested by using the“t”test for independent sample groups, and by single variant analysis for samples having more than one groupVII were investigated according to significance level of.05. The results obtained from this research are as follows: the ages, marital status, the number of children, the status of family, general health status, smoking and drinking habits, technological facilities in their houses, work satisfaction attendance, education, hierachical status, economic status, enjoying the shifts, do not effect significantly to the productivity of workers. Social relations at workplace and the working conditions of workplace effect significantly to the productivity of workers. This conclusion is not unexpected because we know that the workers have being forced to produce an amount above a of certain limit determined the related authorities. If any worker could not produce that certain amount in one day, he then has to work moore to compensate that amount the next day. If he could not manage to do so he may be dissmissed or his wage may be cut out. In order to increase productivity some incentive applications, other than those forced rules, like increasing wages with increasing production, supplying transportation, good conditioned vacation, egual treatment, better and safer working conditions, good relations between workers and employers, and an assurance about their future heve been suggested.
