ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of communication campaigns for increasing driver's perceived risk of apprehension in traffic safety. Firstly, the studies dealing with this issue are evaluated in terms of basic accident causation, communication and persuasion theories. After that the study introduced a systematic approach to developing communication campaigns for increasing perceived risk of apprehension. Further, to measure the drivers' perceived risk of apprehension in the first step of a communication campaign. A casual-comperative research was conducted. Sixty randomly selected subjects split into the two groups were used in the study. The subjects who wore their seat belts had a higher perceived risk of apprehension than the subjects who did not wear their seat belts. The results of research provided a basis to describe the target of the communication campaign under consideration.
