100 SUMMARY This study is a monography on the History of Turkish Press and the subject of this study is the periodical named Insan, published April 1938 to August 1943 With 25 issues. The Founders of the İnsan are Hilmi Ziya Ülken, Nurullah Ataç, Sabahattin Eyüboğlu and Muzaffer Şerif, The publisher and the editor is Hilmi Ziya Ülken. In the origin of the issuing of the İnsan, lies the thought that, the Renaissance period has began in Turkey after the Turkish Revolution. The aim of the founders is, to contribute to this evohing Renaissance process, and to defend the humanist Venture on the ideological grounds ant thus to make all the Strata of the society identify themselves with this process. A universal and logic point of view is what they try to establish. Given this policy of publishing, the periodical named İnsan is presented to the reader with a coherent composition Until the 12 th issue, released in may 1939. But after this issue a conflict between the 4 founder(Hilmi Ziya Ülken, Nurullah Ataç, Sabahattin Eyüboğlu and Muzaffer Şerif) arose and the periodical was forced to close down. At this period, do minant themes were sociology, philosophy and history. After a long while, in April 1941, the periodical was reissued by Hilmi Ziya Ülken. But he coldn't be able to maintain the previo us systematic level, as it was before. After 7 irregular issues it had to close down again in Oct. 1941. in this irregular period the number of the pages were diminished where a great deal of them were devoted to literature works(story, poem) and theoretical essays found little spaces. In Feb. 1943, the periodical was issued again, by Hilmi Ziya Ülken, with a seemingly mo re regular intervals, but in an ordinary appearance beyond its aim of foundation. Though its new vision it had to close down for the last fine after a short while(August 1943). The İnsan, of which the“Turkish Renaissance”idea has determined its aim of publishing, was an attempt made to unveil the very being of Turkish nation, with the humanism method, free of dogmas. Neverthless, all the efforts made by Hilmi Ziya Ülken who shouldered the ideological burden of the periodical, did not suffice to fully support these ideals. During the period it was published, the periodical named, İnsan couldn't be able to put forvard new work coherent with its aim of birth and to realize its profound aspirations. In spite off all these failures, with its short life of 25 issues the periodical named İnsan had done a great deal in expressing the desires and feelings of a nation in pursuit of a per fect civilization. Therefore it also has been a cruciql serie of documents in reflecting the ru ling ideology of a period it was published.
