Özet
İki bölümden oluşan tez çalışmamın ilk bölümünde İstanbul, Kent, Flâneur ve KameralıAdam üst başlıkları altında tez'imin dayanağı olan kavramlar incelenmiş, ikincibölümde ?İstanbul? belgeselimin bu kavramlar çerçevesindeki kuramsal yapısı vebiçimsel özellikleri tartışılmıştır.İstanbul'un tarihi, İstanbul bölgesine ilk yerleşimlerden başlayarak, Bizantion veKonstantinopolis'in Osmanlı tarafından alınana kadar geçirdiği dönemler genelhatlarıyla anlatılmıştır. Osmanlı ve Cumhuriyet Dönemi İstanbul'u detaylı incelenerekgünümüz İstanbul'unun kentleşme ve değişim politikalarına gelinmiştir. Kentkavramının sosyolojik ve mimari yönden sürekli kendini yenileyen bir kavram olmasısebebiyle kent içindeki bireysel ve toplumsal ilişkilerin gelişimine ve mimari yapınınbelirgin olarak değiştiği modern ve postmodern dönemlere yakından bakılmıştır.`Flâneur' kavramı ortaya çıktığı dönem içinde Walter Benjamin'in kavramla ilgilimetinlerinden faydalanarak anlatılmıştır. `Kameralı Adam' filminin bir kente bakış açısıve döneminin yapısı bağlamında içeriği aktarılmış, yönetmeni Dziga Vertov'un kentegerçekçi yaklaşımından etkilenen bazı kuramcıların fikirlerine de yer verilmiştir.Bütün bu kavramsal çerçeve içerisinde ortaya çıkan filmimin İstanbul'u anlatırkenkiamacı, gerçekçi olmak adına seçtiği çekim yöntemleri ve kurgu masasında bugerçekçiliği ve kendiliğindenliği anlatabilmek için kurulmuş biçimsel yapısı ikincibölümde tartışılmıştır. Belgesel projem İstanbul'un geçirmekte olduğu kentseldeğişimlere bir sorun-çözüm kapsamında değil sadece bir sürece tanıklık etmekbağlamında yaklaşmış ve bu süreci yansıtmaya çalışmıştır.

This thesis consists of two parts. In the first part are analyzed the concepts on which mythesis rests, under the heading Istanbul, City, Flâneur and The Man With The MovieCamera. In the second part, institutional and formal structures within the parameters ofthese concepts that make up my Istanbul documentary are discussed.Istanbul?s history is told, in broad terms, starting with the first settlements in theIstanbul region to the conquest by the Ottoman Empire of Byzantium andConstantinople. Further, the Istanbul of the Otoman Empire and that of the TurkishRepublic have been examined in detail, taking us all the way up to the politics ofurbanization and change. Due to the constant revitalization of city?s sociological andarchitectural structures, this thesis focuses with particular interest on the behavioraldevelopment of individual and social attitudes and the transformation of thearchitectural structure in the modern and post-modern periods of the city. The conceptof Flâneur is explained with help from Walter Benjamin?s books and articles.Themovie, The Man With The Movie Camera and its viewpoint towards the city is used inthe analysis of the thesis; also included are the views of theorists that are influenced bythe movie?s director Dziga Vertov?s realistic approach to the city. The filming andediting methods selected for a truthful portrayal of Istanbul are discussed in the secondsection of the thesis. This project does not take a position in providing any solutions tothe problems developing in Istanbul but provides the reader with a testimony of a periodundergoing transformation and a reflection upon this process.
