1 39 SUMMARY The influence of The Turkish langugage on Urdu is undeni able. The name of the languaga 'Urdu' is of Turkish origin. Since the founder of the language Amir Khusrav was also a Turk by birth, the holder of the first divan of Urdu was a Turkoman (The King Quli Qutup Steh) and many other great poets such as Asudallah Ghalip belonged the Central Asian Turks, the lite rary as well as linguistic influence of the Turkish culture is inevitable. To this date very little attention has been given to the study of the influence of the Turkish language on Urdu. In this study, however short it may be an effort is made to show how far the two languages although they belong to different roots-one Ural-Altaic the other to Ind o -Eur op en-do have come similarities.
