SUMMARY Malkoç, Abdulhak:“Joshi in Japanese”, Master Thesis, Adviser: Prof.Dr »Pulat Otkan. XVII + 65 pages. The characteristic style of a language depends on its each of the smallest elements. If one would like to understand the essence and the nature of a language he must consider the main words and analyze both the structure if phrases and the rules for sentence formation. He must later turn to induce the whole in order to see the integrity of the statements entirely. For this reason, the subject matter of“Joshi”which is one element of phrase in Japanese is studied in the present mas ter thesis. The role of MJoshi“in the phrases of Japanese and their meaning with variation one examined and the functions of these ”Joshi“ in the Japanese language are companed with those of their exact or proxy equivalents in Turkish. The history and the variety of these ”Joshiwsin Japanese and their usages in phrases and finally the alterations in their meanings according to usage are tried to explain. In addition the“Joshi”related to the subject are explanied with sample sen tences and their meanings in Turkish are shown under each sample sentence. 65
