Özet
ÖZET Bu çalışmada, ilkokul çocuklarının metin düzleminde dil gelişim düzeyleri incelenmektedir. Çalışma, bilgilendirici metinler ve anımsama, özetleme işlemleriyle sınırlandırılmıştır. Örneklem grubu, ilkokul eğitiminde okuma/anlama yetisini geliştirme bakımından ilk ve son basamağı oluşturdukları düşünülen 2.ci ve 5.ci sınıf öğrencilerinden oluşturulmuştur. Doğal ortamda yürütülen araştırmada ilkokul dergilerinden seçilen özgün metinler kullanılmıştır. Toplanan veriler dört başlık altında nicel ve nitel olarak incelenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar, metnin algılanması ve üretilmesinde yaş faktörünün önemini kanıtlamasının yanısıra çocuklara verilen metinlerin mikro ve makro düzlemdeki bağdaşıklık özelliklerinin etkisini de ortaya çıkarmıştır.

Ill ABSTRACT This study aims at providing insight into the processing of expository prose by the second and the fifth graders of the elementary school. A quasi- experiment was designed to find the correlation between text processing and the age of the children and the organization of texts. The investigation is carried on in real setting via the actual texts used in elementary schools. The collected data is analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results have provided evidence that the text processing skills of children improve as they grow older. However, the organization of the text also has a significant role in the successful processing of texts. This can be considered as an indication of the importance of the nature and the quality of the reading materials aimed at school children to improve their language skills.
