41 SUMMARY The Prevalence of the Stomach Helminths in Equines To determine the prevalence of stomach helminths in equines between March 2004 and February 2005, 100 equines' stomach belonging to 53 horses, 41 donkeys and 6 mules were examined following slaugthering. The feces which were collected from Ankara Horse Riding Clubs and Hıfzısıhha Institute Serum Production and Ranch for Test Animals have been examined to search stomach helminths, for only general to feces inspection. Moreover, the feces collected from the rectums of equines who were under the organ examination were also examined According to stomach examinations it has been determined that 87 percent of equines have been infected by stomach helminths and Habronema muscae, Habronema majus and Trichostrongylus axei have been determined as the species responsible from the infection. Totally when the examined equide groups have been evaluated, 39 % T. axei, 56 % H. muscae, 50 % H. majus and 70 % immature Habronema infection have been recorded. At least one helminth infection was observed at 90,5 % of horses. Distribution of this rate was have been detected as 28,3 % T. axei, 54,7 % H. muscae, 50,9 % H. majus, 71,6 % immature Habronema spp. There was no age effect in the prevalence of the infection, but in females T.axei has been found more prevalent (p<0,05) than the males. At least one helminth infection was observed at 82,9 % of donkeys. Distribution of this rate was have been detected as 46,3 % T. axei, 56 % H. muscae, 43,9 % H. majus, 65,8 % immature Habronema spp. It has not seen any age and sex effect (p>0,05) in the prevalence of the infection. At least one helminth infection was observed at 83,3 % of mules. Distribution of this rate was have been detected as 83,3 % 7". axei, 66,6 % H. muscae, 83,3 % H. majus, 83,3 % immature Habronema spp. The stomach helminths seen commonly in the organ controls but not in feces examinations suggest that these infections at alive animals are so hard to detect with the routine flotation tecniques.
