Özet
11 ÖZET İstanbul'da Bizans Sarnıçları konulu çalışmanın kapsamı, İstanbul Sultanahmet Bölgesi'nde bulunan 29 sarnıcın incelenerek durumlarının tespiti, belgelenmesi ve yapılardaki tahribatların belirlenerek korunmalarına yönelik öneriler getirilmesidir. Çalışmanın ilk bölümünde giriş, çalışmanın amacı, kapsamı, yöntemi ve literatür içindeki yeri ele alınmıştır. İkinci bölümde İstanbul'da Bizans Dönemi Sarmçlan'na ilişkin genel bilgiler verilmiş, İstanbul'da Bizans Dönemi su sistemi, sarnıç kavramı, yapısı ve türleri açıklanarak günümüzde mevcut olan ve olmayan sarnıçlar listelenmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde 26 sarnıç yapısı çevre özellikleri, tarihsel gelişim, mimari özellikleri ve mevcut durumları açısından incelenerek yapıların geleceklerine yönelik öneriler getirilmiştir. Binbirdirek Sarnıcı ve Yerebatan Sarayı Sarnıcı'nda yapılan restorasyon çalışmaları iyi ve kötü yönleri ile dördüncü bölümde değerlendirilerek yapılardaki yarışlıkların giderilmesine yönelik çözümler önerilmiştir. Beşinci bölümde Eşrefîye Sokağı Sarnıcı çevre özellikleri, tarihsel gelişimi, mimari özellikleri ve mevcut durumu detaylı olarak incelenerek, sarnıcın restorasyonuna yönelik fikir projesi sunulmuştur. Bu çalışma sonucunda İstanbul'da Bizans Dönemi'nden kalan sarnıçların gerek insan eliyle gerekse doğal etkiler sonucu tahrip oldukları tespit edilmiştir. Yapıların korunmasına yönelik çalışmalar yapılmazsa kısa süre içinde birçoğu daha yok olacaktır.

Ill ABSTRACT The content of this study with the subject issue of Byzantine Cisterns in Istanbul is, investigation,examination, determination & documentation of the recent conditions & status of 29 pieces of cisterns that take place in Istanbul Sultan Ahmet region.That study also aims to find out & determine the damage & destruction on those historical buildings and put solution offers to protect them to avoid further more damage. On the introduction part, you'll find briefly the goal of this study, its content & methods followed as wellas its place in today's literature. A general scientific knowledge & information about the concept, the types and the structure of Byzantine times water distribution systems and cisterns take place on the second section. This part also contains the list of cisterns that are existing today as well as the disappearing ones. Third section covers the detailed study of all 26 cisterns with their historical developements, architectural and constructural features and their current situaition along with the information about their surroundings. Following this, solutions are also offered for the future protection & use of those buildings on the direction of the evaluations on this part. Then we try to find out the pros & cons ( positive & negative sides ) of the restoration works made on“Binbirdirek & Yerebatan Cisterns”. Of course, we also bring our own solutions & decribe how to correct the wrong applications on those restorations ( Binbirdirek & Yerebatan ). Fifth section will cover“ Eşrefiye Sokağı Cistern ”providing with the informations of its history, its architectural specifications and itscurrent situation with its surrounding. And some ideas has been put & turned into a restoration project later on about this cistern is taking place on this section also.
