SUMMARY When we say industry, the first thing that comes to mind in automotive industry. Automotive industry is the driving force of the economy in developed countries. Even in Turkey which in a developing fcountry, 525000 people are employed in this sector. The first car was assembled, in 1964 in Turkey but now the production has, topped 1000 00 vehicles a year with the 96 percont of the components produced completely in the country, with the lowering of the taxes, the imports have become.more competetive lately however, so a decline in the production in obvivus. On the other hand, 19 people out of a thousand-are car owners to bring thin number up to 78, which in the world average, we have to produce 5 00 000 can a year. Environmental pollution, noice traffce accidents, high petrol prices increase the importance ©f accurate diognastic tests carried out by properly qualified technical personall. In the first section of the study general information on engines in given. The second section gives information about testing devices (equipment). The third section in about engine performance test and the steps to diognose a fault in the least possible span of time. The fourth section deals with the problem of service station. In the fifth part the current situation of the automativ industry with regard to capacity and repair. IX
