Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı 20. yüzyıl sonu metropoliten kent merkezlerinde gerçekleşen kentsel ve mimari dönüşümleri araştırmaktır. Bu dönüşümlerin, 20. yüzyıl sonuna doğru tüm batı ekonomilerini ve kentlerini etkileyen yapısal ekonomik değişimlerin önemli sonuçlarından biri olması nedeniyle, çalışmanın genel çerçevesi, 20. yüzyıl sonu küresel ekonomik değişimler kapsamı içerisinde düşünülmüştür. Bu bağlamda, kent merkezlerinde yoğunlaşan ekonomik aktivitelerin, ve bu aktiviteler doğrultusunda geliştirilen ulusal ve uluslararası devlet politikalarının etkisi altında gerçekleşen kentsel dönüşümleri, kent içi projelerinin gelişim süreçlerini ve mimari gelişimi anlamak ve tartışmak amaçlanmıştır. Bu çerçevede tartışma, birleşme sonrası Berlin'deki kentsel dönüşüm ve mimari gelişim süreçleri örneği üzerinden yapılacaktır. Berlin'i ele almanın nedeni, kentin 20. yüzyılın sonlarında küresel ekonomik değişimlerin ve politikaların etkisi altında, kent içi gelişim projeleri ve mimari gelişim açısından önemli bir örnek olmasıdır. Ayrıca Berlin, metropoliten kent merkezlerinde, izlenen ulusal ve uluslararası politikaların etkisi altında gerçekleşen kentsel ve mimari dönüşümü tartışmak için örnek olarak ele alınacaktır.

The aim of this research is to study urban transformations and architectural development that have been taking place in metropolitan city centers by the late 20th century. Since this phenomenon is one of the primary consequences of structural economic changes that have affected western economies and cities since the 1970s, the framework of this research is considered within the larger context of growth of world economy by the late 20th century. Accordingly, it is aimed to understand the development processes of inner-city projects and architectural transformation under the effect of economic activities promoted and concentrated in city centers and economy-based national policies of states. Within this framework, the case study of this research is the urban redevelopment processes and architectural transformation in post-wall Berlin, which is a unique case in terms of being a huge site for the most recent large-scale inner-city development projects in Europe and the process of transformation it has been experiencing under the effects of global economic and national policies. Through the discussion of the Berlin case, it is aimed that urban transformation and architectural development in city centers, under the effects of late 20th century economy-based urban policies will be discussed. More importantly, Berlin is a unique case providing to discuss the confrontation of national and international policies determining the urban and architectural development in metropolitan city centers.
