ABSTRACT CANİKLİ, İfyas;“The Investigation of the Hadiths Related to Caliphate Concept”. Doctorate Thesis, Adviser: Prof. Dr. M. Hayri KIRBAŞOGLU, XIII+265. This thesis which is named“The Investigation of the Hadiths Related to Caliphate Concept”is based on three chapters. In the introduction chapter, it was studied in which historical environment of the caliphate and caliph terms began to use. It was obtained that the caliph and caliphate concept weren't based on“nas”with the Quranic perspective. In the first chapter the relation between caliphate and“nas”was taken into consideration. Especially, the political discussions related to who would be caliph began after illness of Hz. Muhammed has been narrated as the prophet's sayings in the later terms. When we consider this condition, which will be named“making hadith of history”it was seen that the arguments caliphate model based on religious“nas”are not consistent In the second chapter, in the new term started with Muaviye, the relation between nas-sovereignty and the problem of two caliphs has been obtained. As some hadiths are evidence related to Hz. Muhammed the arguments of caliphate based on“nas”. At the same time the legitimating sovereignty model has been based on religious verses. By the means of studying and researching and historical data it was obtained that this arguments are deprived on the strong basis. In the third chapter it was studied caliphs in hadiths and some characteristic of caliphs. It was obtained from hadiths, which have been occurred in the consequence of political events, the number of caliphs, being richness of a caliph than the others, the relation between caliphs and discords. In the consequence of this study it has been satisfied that“Caliphate Model”wasn't directed on“nas”. It has been developed according to the conditions of the time. It has been satisfied to try new model in different names in terms of religion, considering Quran, Hz. Muhammed's sunne and the experience of human beings.
