Özet
Ö Z E T Viktorya döneminde, kadınların maruz kaldığı bozuk sosyal şartlardan kaynaklanan, yaygın,, kadın, Problemi kavramı dönem:in sonlarına doğru kadınların sosyal ve yasal durumlarında bir iyileşmeye öncülük etti. Kadın Problemine duyulan bu ilgi dönem içinde yazılan romanlarda yansıtılmıştır; pek çok yazarın baş kahramanı kadın olan eseri erinden bir kadının deneyini! erini yansıttıkları görülür. Bu eserler arasın da Charlotte Bronte'nin yazdığı Jane Eyre George Eliot* m yazdığı The Mill on the Floss, ve George Meredith'in yazdığı Plana of the 'Cross/Ways 'i sayabiliriz. Bu tezin amacı yukarıda adı gecen üç romanda, kadınlık deneyiminin nasıl yansıtıldığını araştırmaktır. Bu tez bir giriş üç esas ve bir de sonuç bölümünden oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde, Viktorya dönemi kadınının sosyal ve yasal gecmişiyle ilgili bilgiler verilmekte, gelişme bölümlerinde, yukarıda belirtilen romanlar kronolojik sıraya göre, kadının deneyimi bakış acısından detaylı olarak ele alınmakta dır. Bu çalışmadan çıkarılan sonuç, Viktorya İngilteresin`de kadınların çok kapsamlı sosyal kısıtlamalara maruz kaldığı, ve kadın olmanın onlar için çok kasvet verici bir durum olduğudur. Bu kısıtlamalardan doğan baskının, kadınların hayatın bütün dönemlerinde kendilerini birey olarak tatmin edebilecek dengeli deneyimler yaşamalarını engellediğini görmekteyiz.

-> 1 ABSTRACT The predominant idea of the.' Women Question'., which originated from women's deteriorated social position in Victorian Age5 leads to an improvement in their social and legal position towards the end of the age. This interest in women's problem is reflected in the novels of the age; we see a larger number of novelists producing works in which they relate the experience of a woman as the main heroine. Among these works are -Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte., The Mill on the Floss by George Eliots and Diana of the Crossways by George Meredith. The aim of the present thesis is to study the representation of female experience in the three above-mentioned novels. The thesis consists of an introductory chapter, three main chapters anda concluding chapter. In the introductory part an acour.t of the social and legal background of Victorian women is given. In the main chapters the mentioned novels are handleds chronol ogicaly s in detail and from the perspective of female experience. The conclusion drawn from this study is that being a female in Victorian England was depressive for women 9 as they were subject to a large variety of social restrictions. It seems that their obsession with these restrictions prevented them from having balanced experiences such as lead the individual to self-fulfillment in all phases of 1 ife.
